Prior to gathering his people for the last message this prophet/king would deliver in person, King Benjamin was visited by an angel. The heavenly visitor proclaimed that the time was “not far distant, that with power, the Lord Omnipotent who reigneth, who was, and is from all eternity to all eternity, shall come down from heaven among the children of men.” King Benjamin related much from this visit to his people, including a single verse of scripture that is a powerful standalone sermon, designed to get the people prepared for the Savior’s coming.
For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him even as a child doth submit to his father.
The subject verse, Mosiah 3:19 in the Book of Mormon, has the same application today as it did then. Becometh As a Child examines in detail, in a conversational tone, the instruction given, amplified by additional scripture and personal experiences of the author. Jesus Christ the Savior has made it very clear that in order to be worthy to return to our heavenly home, we must become as children. Progressing from “adulthood” to “childhood” as instructed is a godly requirement. We are all members of God’s family and He wants us to return home. That is the way.
